I’m Naira Bonilla
Since I was a child I was always thinking about fairness. “That’s not fair” was my catchphrase. When I turned 17, I saw An Inconvenient Truth, the environmental documentary by Al Gore and that was the ultimate “unfairness”. Glaciers were melting, corals were dying, trees were falling, and no one was doing anything to protect the Earth. That wasn’t fair and I needed to act.
I quickly realized that environmental communication came in a scientific package, full of complicated words and facts few people understood. My first communication action was to create posters of the causes and consequences of climate change and paste them around my high school.
…after lots of studying, I worked to raise awareness on deforestation in Colombia, I convinced donors of all sizes to donate to conservation projects in Latin America, and I told stories about the fishers, farmers, and communities that protect our amazing landscapes.
Now I work with organizations that want to do things differently and find creative ways of sharing their story,
I bring to life creative communication strategies that share how our actions can change the environment and what we can do today to change our future.
